In the 13th century the Venetian explorer Marco Polo introduced Asia to Europe. He departed from Venice, followed the Silk Route and ended up in Cathay, which is now known as China. Here he discovered interesting habits, a high form of civilisation and impressive wealth, which lead Marco Polo to trade with China. Centuries later we still do.
