These beautiful indigo cloths are made by the Dogon tribe in Mali and have recently been recognized by UNESCO as part of the World Heritage. The stunning indigo fabrics are created by a women-organized, local co-operative. The natural indigo dye is made of the fermented leaves of the indigo bush and gives the fabrics their characteristic, intense, dark blue colour associated with power, magic and divinity. The beautiful symbolic motifs come to life through traditional printing techniques, such as tie-dye, batik and block printing.
